New Insurance Coverage – We are getting ready to wrap up the 2nd month of 2019. It has been almost three months since open enrollment season ended for buying new health insurance. We hope that you decided to insure yourself and your family. Now that you have the insurance coverage, here are few tips on how to best utilize it.
The Network
Just like when going online or finding Wi-Fi at a cafe, it is now time to utilize your network. Within each network are providers that are approved for your level of insurance. These are preferred doctors and offices that your insurance is linked to. Most of the time the Insurance provider has given you a large catalog or links to online references. This is the time to either find out if your existing Primary or Family Care Physician is within the provider’s network, or if you need to find a new practice.
Still in!
If you are fortunate enough to have found a provider that utilities your current preferred offices, count yourself lucky! The only steps you need to take is updating the billing department of your current new insurance. Just let the scheduler know that when the visit occurs, you have new insurance information to provide them. They will either update your information right over the phone or require you to bring in a few documents when it is time for your appointment.
Finding a New Provider
Sometimes it is hard choosing a new provider. Once you have used the resource guide, narrow down location and services. Are you a growing family and may need Family Practice physicians? What stage are you in life and what sort of regular check-up appointments are you going to need? Most offices now have very good information on websites with bios and services, as well as reviews. So research which office is a good fit for your current needs.
The Choice is Made
When you choose a new provider, give them a call to make sure they are accepting new clients. Most administrators are very savvy around this time of year because of open enrollment and new insurance purchases. Don’t be shy about confirming if they take your new insurances.
Ask them if you need to sign any waivers or release of record information before your first appointment with them. They should be able to provide you with all the steps you need to make the transition as easy as possible.
